How long do I have to clear the snow/ice from the sidewalk in front and or at the side of my home?

You have 24 hours after a snow fall to clear the snow/ice from your sidewalk. For additional information, please contact the Customer Care Centre by email at customercare@pickering.ca, or by phone at 905.683.7575, 1.877.420.4666.     Please click on the link to review the Ice & Snow Clearing By-law.

The snowplough has left a large deposit of snow at the bottom of my driveway. Will they come back to remove it?

The windrows (piles of snow left by the plow at the bottom of driveway), are the responsibility of the homeowner to remove. Operators do their best to minimize the amount of windrow left by the plow, but depending on the amount of snow that has fallen or cars parked on the street sometimes a larger amount of snow is left. The City understands how frustrating this can be for our residents who have just cleared their driveway, but unfortunately this is unavoidable.

What are residents responsible for during winter control?

Residents are responsible for clearing snow from their walkways, sidewalks and driveways; as well as ensuring that cars are not parked on the street, impeding winter control operations. In addition to three hour parking, vehicles are not to be parked on any road in the City of Pickering between 2:00 am and 5:00 am, from December 1 to March 31. This parking regulation is designed to keep Pickering's streets clear of vehicles so that the snow plough operators can clear away ice and snow quickly and easily during the overnight hours when there is less traffic volume. Vehicles are also not permitted to be parked on the road at any time while the City's snow plough operators are clearing ice and snow. If a snowfall is in the forecast, it is a good idea to move your vehicle off the road.

I am having company from out of town; can they obtain a permit to park on the street?
