Meet Bear. This handsome, 3-legged German Shepherd cross came to us as a stray back in August. Bear was in a rough shape when we first met him—he had very irritated skin and fur loss, was having mobility issues, and had very crusty eyes. It seemed that Bear has lived in this condition for quite some time, and he was initially shy around people. It took some time for this boy to get used to being around us, but he is starting to come out of his shell, and will readily greet those he is familiar with. With lots of TLC and some medications, we are ecstatic to share that Bear is doing much better and is looking healthier and happier by the day. Anyone who is considering adopting this guy must be aware of some of his medical conditions. He was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and will need to be on medication indefinitely. There has been a significant improvement with his mobility and coat since we started him on the thyroid medication. He will require regular vet check-ups and bloodwork to ensure that his thyroid levels maintain within normal range, and to help determine dose adjustments, if necessary. Allergy testing was also done which allowed us to identify which foods he is sensitive to and must be avoided to prevent flare ups. Lastly, Bear also has “dry eyes” which will require daily application of eye medication to help with tear production and reduce eye discharge. We are currently in the process of getting this handsome boy a prosthetic leg to give him a better quality of life. This will also help reduce further stress on his remaining legs. Bear is an absolute sweet heart and deserves a loving and attentive family that can give him the comfortable life that he deserves. Estimated to be 7 years old, this gentle-natured boy will do best in a home without other dogs. He has been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He loves being outside, so a large fenced yard is ideal for him. If you are interested in Bear please complete an online adoption application form. Staff will review every application and arrangements will be made for those selected for a meet and greet with Bear. We thank you in advance and look forward to finding Bear a perfect new home.
